Thursday - Web 2.0 Expo
I’m placing here a laundry list of things that I’ve found at the Web 2.0 Expo as well as some interesting quotes. The most interesting thing that was said this morning was from Mitchell Baker of Mozilla in mention of internet related devices: “It’s the mental, human constraints” not the actual possibilities…we have trouble understanding metaphors for how to use the internet in the ways are more intuitive to everyone. “It shouldn’t matter what the device is and where I am, I should be able to use the information I want when I want.”
Sounds like a huge problem to solve, and some of these companies are making attempts towards “changing the metaphor” that in different ways.
Springnote: Originates in Korea and started-up in October 2007, this is a good sign that Asian markets are actually coming on board to the new media wave. Springnote is a bit like Google Notebook, but it’s less focused on hyperlinks from the web and more like an extension of your laptop online.
Salesforce.com helped me figure out some of my questions about their product adoption. Product adoption seems to be the big challenge for Enterprise 2.0
Dreamfish: A social networking product targeting the sustainability or CSR angle. I noticed a number of other companies who are taking social networking platforms to the corporate side, which proves that Consumer 2.0 is the wave towards Enterprise 2.0
Quote around CSR & social media: “There’s an explosion of cleantech and an explosion of social media”: those things seem correlated because we are experiencing a collaborative, grassroots focused movement. Fancy that.
SMM strategy:There’s no “one size fits all” in developing a social media marketing strategy. For example, start-ups & non-profits are budget strapped according to a marketing guy at Stage Two Consulting, who also started a “movement” called Geeks Doing Good (which you can find on Facebook).
Obviously, I haven’t processed much of this information yet, but I noticed quite a few start-ups with similar ideas: mash-ups, social networking, note & wiki platforms for consumer and enterprise…all of these concepts are already becoming passé, because entry-barriers in software are low and some entrants need to prepare themselves with an exit point, and a contingency plan.
