Ideas for Better Blogging Roundup

May 14, 2008 · 1 Comment

I’m always trying to figure out how I could blog better and keep people coming back to this website. One of the trends that seems to work well is to write about writing. I’m starting to notice that when I comment somewhere, I get links to my blog. Social bookmarking also seems to work well. My best day was May 3, thanks to a bunch of referrals from StumbleUpon. But it’s already May 13. Needless to say, blog maintenance if you are to do it as a profession is a campaign in itself.

Introspective thoughts aside, I’ve compiled a list of blogging advice from different sources which is a great way to get a good review of what you’re doing well and other things you could improve. Please leave a comment and add your links since it’s without a doubt that I will have missed a number of interesting posts.

  • *10 Tips on Writing on the Living Web from A List Apart by Mark Bernstein. (It’s a 2002 article but definitely still relevant.)

Write for a reason and write tightly, Berstein advises.

  • *20 Blogging Projects for You by Chris Brogan: Brogan recommends “sharing five friends” or showing a photo tour of your town. Both ideas I like mucho.
  • *Using Google Notebook for Blogging Ideas from Search for Blogging by Mert Erkal: I like Erkal’s idea about using Google Notebook to improve workflow, but he definitely could add some details. More on that soon.
  • *Problogger’s blogging workflow in YouTube format: This one was definitely more comprehensive, and offers some good ideas to improve your workflow and keep track of all the ideas you have.

I completely forget how I stumbled upon this blog, but I’m glad I did. I have no short-term memory as a result of drinking gasoline when I was five, but that is neither here nor there.

As a new blogger myself, I’ve been looking for wisdom from more experienced folks. People with good tips. People with amusing anecdotes. People with tans. I hear that there is a correlation between tans and income. Where was I?

Oh yeah, thanks again and I’ll be visiting your site regularly! My blog got 14 hits today and I’m ecstatic. Feel free to hit me up for advice.
