Sorry, I couldn’t make it.

I hate to say this, but I didn’t get to make it to Social Media Camp. And it’s really a transparency thing than anything else to admit it, since I promised I might write something. I watched a few tweets during the day from @marianne_m from wordpress, @chrisheuer (but of course!) and @Pistachio talking about some Tweetups for Blogher also happening this week.

Things got a little crazy today. I have to say though, I have my eye pointed towards the social media horizon and I am going to get my questions answered.

Men are merely mortals

June 15, 2008 · 1 Comment

This week was blurry. The sky went up in ash on Friday night and I woke up to find my car covered in something. I spent Thursday accompanying a friend in ER (for an appendectomy), and spending time in ER, I saw/heard a few things that can remind us not to take our health for granted–especially bloggers who are said to be at a higher risk from computer strain.

A few things that I saw or heard at ER:
1. An old woman howling and crying from the pain in her ribs
2. A middle-aged man bleeding from the middle of his forehead
3. A young man tied to a machine and obviously disoriented with no idea where he was!

The people that I know are so well equipped. A desktop or laptop computer, a good job, friends, family…
It seems like a good time as any to be thankful for being healthy, alive and safe.
If you are at a computer screen most of the day, check out this read with some good health tips

This is the Best Time to Post

Cafe Boulange in Hayes Valley, San Francisco

I’m in the Hayes Valley Café Boulange and I am in love with this place. It makes me feel like speaking French…“J’ai hâte revenir à Paris!!!”

I just looked up LinkedIn and found this in my newsfeed:

“between 1pm and 3pm PST (after lunch) or between 5pm and 7pm PST (after work) are the best times and Thursday is the best day. The worst time to post? Between 3 and 5 PM PST on the weekends - nobody cares.”

I’m trying this out to see what happens.

The funny thing is, I am not sure if announcing the best time to post will really get many eyes on the page, because information fatigue is an ongoing thing, so I’m trying to find ways to solve this problem.

In case you are interested, my new obsession is… (more…)

Realize, Publicize, Widgetize

April 29, 2008 · No Comments

Well, I’m quite busy currently with some work initiatives, so this is going to be a short post. I’ve never really been into widgets so much because they are just too many spammy widgets inside of Facebook, but I went to a talk last week at the Web 2.0 Expo that got me thinking more about this as a social media marketing vehicle.

Netvibes is a pretty cool desktop and they’ve been able to make RSS feeds into widgets as well as make Facebook notifications and Twitter notifications part of the effort to aggregate content in one place.

So I guess I don’t have many thoughts on this other than to say that I think this is pretty cool. But what does this look like from a developer standpoint? What are the challenges in creating these little pieces of viral candy? I hope to look around more on this subject, but would love to hear thoughts from software developer people particularly who are offering widgets as a type of viral tool and what kind of involvement does it take for widget software developers to create simple & interactive code for widgets? How well does it work, and does it seem to spread well compared to other types of viral methods?

Thank You, Readers

April 21, 2008 · No Comments

Thanks to everyone who has been checking out my blog in the past few months.
My Feedburner reports 174 page views and 752 clicks to direct blog links from the past month, which is really impressive to me, because I didn’t intend for this blog to really be something for a wide audience.

Thank you all who have been reading, and thanks for being patient during this time when I transition to WordPress. It’s challenging to do, especially if I want people to still find me here.

And to the 7 subscribers currently on my blog, thank you for listening. I hope you will identify yourselves over the next couple of months so that I can recognize you properly. :o)
