April: A Month of Fresh Starts

April 2, 2025

Each month, I write about my reflections and hopes for that month. These are my current logs for the month of April. This month's theme is "Fresh Starts". This April marks many types of Fresh Starts for me, because this was the same month last year that I was RIF'd. While most people might say that a RIF is a loss, I saw the previous year's April as a new Fresh Start. The same goes for today as I closed up a limited engagement on freelancing last month.

Consistency

  • What: I'm working on consistency this month, and practicing the language of choice. Instead of "I have to" or "I should", I am practicing "I choose to" or "I want to," while trying to make sense of my goals and daily routines. I am hoping that
    • Why: Our needs are often ignored for different reasons. But reframing how we speak about ourselves is powerful.
    • Why: My kids will benefit from witnessing this same consistency, because they will have me as a strong role model.

Values for Creating a Good Life

  • What: Revisiting my values this month. I know I will be successful when: I can clearly name my values and be able to recite them clearly out loud. While I already know these, there's something powerful about having them really clear and written down in a way that I can articulate them and stay anchored.
    • Why: This is just one piece of the puzzle for creating a life vision in my mini project for "How to Create a Good Life."

Around the Year Reading Challenge 2025

  • What: Getting back to my reading challenge
    • Why: It's not a new habit per se, but it's an old one that I'm picking up again. The why is simple, I think better when I read and I make a lot of connections in my brain that I think could be useful to someone, some day. Some day soon, I'll log my current reading challenge list, as it's a lot more complex than it has been in previous months.

Track the Wins

  • What: Tracking my wins and reflecting on a weekly basis at least. I know I'm successful when: I can see a clear enough picture to look back on the month and write about how it went in the next month, as well as how it ties to my life vision.
    • Why: It goes back to practicing confidence and knowing the path that I am taking.
